A subterranean library being built into the hillside behind an historic property in the Peak District required mastic asphalt tanking to its wall structure in order to prevent ground water from penetrating into the building and causing significant damp, if not flood-like, problems.
The wall perimeter was 45 linear metres in total and reached up to 6 metres high in places – a major undertaking for the team!
We subsequently returned to site to install a mastic asphalt roof onto the nearly completed library. The roof will eventually be a “green roof”, covered in turf and buried within the hillside.
For obvious reasons a root resistant and extremely durable roofing system was required hence the specification for mastic asphalt.
